Health is a concept of the human mind.Male and female Sexual health also related to mind. It can perhaps be defined as the sensation of the body when all is functioning well. In other words, although the idea is in the mind, its origin is in the body. And again we stress, even the idea resides in the cells of the cerebral cortex.Yet one cannot speak scientifically of the 'health' of a cell. it does not, after all, have a mind. At cellular level the important factor is cell function. If every body cell functions at its best, then the whole person will be, and will feel, healthy. The reverse is also true. If a substantial proportion of the cells are not working properly then 'health' will not be experienced. indeed, it is only necessary for a significant proportion of cells in one small area to be functioning badly, and, if that area is a vital one, like an endocrine gland, then the whole individual will lose the sense of being healthy. Other cells and tissues will also suffer, and body functions will deteriorate until a state of ill health, or disease, is reached.

To attempt to treat such problems totally at any other level than the cellular is unrealistic. And it will be unsuccessful.

There are thought to be two and only two ways to treat psychosomatic conditions. First there are psychological techniques starting with simple reassurance, proceeding through to the use of techniques like hypnosis or the trickery of placebos, and culminating with deep psychotherapy. Second, there is the use of mind changing drugs . We occasionally use these methods too. But they are not the only two ways. There is a third.

In sexual diseases just as in any other kind of disease, the body has mechanisms of self cure. It is ascribed to Hippocrates himself that the concept of 'Nature alone heals' must be recognised in medicine. It is impossible to describe even the ways that are known, by which the body can re adjust for and compensate in, situations of faults within itself.

The body is capable of repairing the damage of trauma, like torn flesh and broken bones. Intestinal disorders can be corrected by 'instinctive' changes in the diet, as can vitamin deficiencies. When there is a fault the tendency is to sleep and fast, thereby taking strain off the body while natural processes try to restore the situation. This is well known by doctors, one of whom once pointed out that medicine itself is little more than the art of 'keeping the patient content while Nature effects a cure!'.

Natural methods are now in increasing use in many fields of medicine. There is no reason why they should not be of value in sexual medicine. We now know that natural ways exist to stimulate and restore cell function. It is possible that to stimulate certain cells will increase the sexual urge.This is of great value to the man tending to lose his sex drive with the passing years, and to the woman whose natural libido has been suppressed by disturbed mental function. At the same time nerve control can be improved. Erectile ability can be increased. Vaginal secretion can be increased, glandular function stimulated and emotional response levels raised.

It is no longer enough for a practitioner or a patient to be obsessed with any one particular kind of therapy. Professional preferences must be curtailed. There must not be excessive concentration on any single aspect of management. As we repeatedly state, the body is not a collection of disjointed systems. It is an entire organism. It must therefore be treated realistically, which is to say holistically. The entire body must be treated, not just its component parts.

Where there is a sexual fault, or where, with age, sexual capacity and ability are tending to wane, a full restorative programme is needed. As we shall explain later, this will certainly include attention to psychological factors. But it will also include management of nutritional factors, instruction, communication, physical and training techniques, control of environmental factors, and so on.

Most of all, it will need thorough management at the basic level, to the cells themselves.

The corrective regime needs to be fully integrated. This full and comprehensive programme is just what sexual rejuvenation is all about.
