Sex aids are artificial devices (penis traction devices) to produce an erection and keep it going are becoming increasingly popular in the USA and Europe among sufferers of prolonged impotency due to trauma, diabetes mellitus or non response to sex therapy. The simplest aid is the ordinary rubber band. When worn snugly at the base of the partially erect penis it permits the arterial blood to enter and prevents the venous blood from leaving the penis, thus maintaining erection. The vibrator consists of a small electric motor, held to the back of the hand with an elastic strap. As the motor vibrates, strong vibrations are produced in the hand which are transmitted to the muscles, the penis or the clitoris. Applying the vibrator to a limp organ quickly brings on an erection because of the rapid, repeated stimulation of the nerve endings on the penis. A more sophisticated device is the electronic erection and ejaculation device working on the same principle.
